Diamond workers in India’s cutting and polishing center of Surat are getting an extended summer vacation.
According to the Times of India (TOI), the 20-day annual vacation, which began at the end of April, will be extended into the first week of June due to the current state of the Indian industry.
Many diamond unit owners are holding off on polishing more goods until prices pick up.
The TOI reported that polished exports dropped by about 11 per cent in March due to dwindling demand in the US, China, Hong Kong and the UAE.
