The Parisian diamond company Rubel & Ménasché continues its rise. To help it bring its projects to completion, in January the company enlisted the services of a new sales manager: Michaël Dreyfus. As a man passionate about high jewellery, and a connoisseur of diamonds, he talks to us about how he came to know Rubel & Ménasché, his goals, and his love for diamonds…
Michaël Dreyfus, what led you to work with diamonds today?
It goes back to my childhood. Both my grandmothers loved jewellery. It was through them that I developed my own passion for jewellery as well as for gems…
When I was thirteen, I was introduced to one of the last lapidaries in Paris. This meeting confirmed my desire to work with gems. During my holidays, I developed the habit of going to his workshop to familiarise myself with cutting work. There I learned to take my time, observe and to be serious; in particular, this cutter of unrivalled talent gave me a taste for aesthetics and a job well done. I got the opportunity to cut all kinds of gems, and in this way, little by little, I learned about diamonds, which did not fail to arouse my interest…
So it was a love of gems and a fortunate meeting with a cutter that opened up the world of diamonds to you?
Yes. During the year prior to my baccalaureate, I therefore enrolled at the IDS (Institute for Diamond Studies.) After my baccalaureate, I joined a Parisian diamond company for a one-year internship. There, I discovered the many “facets” of the industry and my interest in trading grew rapidly. Then, during my 3 years in the army, I took courses in gemmology at the GIA at the same time. It fascinated me! I got my degree, and therefore became a Graduate Gemmologist.
Subsequently, after a one-year internship at the same diamond company to deepen my knowledge, my desire to return to work at the Ramat Gan exchange was confirmed…
So at 22 years old, I flew to Israel, where I was hired as a sorter by a diamond company. Very quickly, I joined the sales department : I like human relations and trade, but I also need to be close to the gems… Two years later, I returned to France to develop the European branch. I took a full management position the following year. It was in this position that I met Stephan Wolzok.
So why did you join Rubel & Ménasché?
It was a company that captivated me immediately. I connected quickly with the team: we share the same values and I had time to realise that in several years of collaboration…
Rubel & Ménasché is a unique company: historic, serious and famous. The team is ambitious and knows how to be adaptive, thorough, flexible and creative in order to reach the top of the industrial level. It succeeds is combining a human dimension with a very long-term strategic vision…
I agree completely with the Rubel & Ménasché motto: “We’re not satisfied with meeting customer expectations; let’s exceed them! “
Could you tell us a bit about your plans and goals as the new sales manager of Rubel & Ménasché?
Obviously, we want to expand our portfolio in Europe and internationally. We also want to open up a wider range of services to our clients. I’ve given myself between 12 and 18 months to achieve these primary objectives.
Finally, I’ll continue to work hand in hand with the team; I’ll check the quality of the stones by touching them myself ? it’s such a pleasure for me! And, of course, I intend to always make sure, with our clients, that “everything is fine” for them when they open their parcels. I’m at their service 24 hours a day. Our customers must be satisfied!
