A heart-shaped diamond, bought for just under $15 million at Christie’s in Geneva, set a new record for a heart-shaped diamond sold at auction.
The sale at the auctioneer’s May 15-17 Luxury Sales event surpassed the previous record of $10.9 million set at Christie’s in May 2011, said François Curiel, Christie’s Chairman Europe and Asia.
The flawless, D color, 92.15-carat, heart-shaped diamond, set by Boehmer et Bassenge in a sautoir, sold for $14,989,012, or $163,016 per carat after three minutes of bidding in the room and telephone, Christie’s said.
