Erik Jens, long considered the most powerful banker in the diamond industry, is leaving his post at ABN AMRO’s diamond desk.
Jens, who worked as ABN’s global head of diamond and jewelry clients for five years, will pursue his career outside the bank, said a statement.
In the same statement, Jens said that he will continue to be involved in the financing side of the luxury sector going forward. He gave no further details. He could not be reached for comment.
He will be replaced as global head of diamond and jewelry clients by Geert van Reisen. Van Reisen currently serves as global head of strategy, risk, and portfolio management for ABN’s diamond and jewelry clients department.
The bank also announced that its diamond and jewelry department will become part of its trade and commodity finance division.
