ALROSA President Sergey Ivanov has held a meeting with US diamond industry representatives: Ronald VanderLinden, President of the US Jewelry Council, and Reuven Kaufman, President of Diamond Dealers Club of New York.
The parties discussed topical issues of the current state of the global rough and polished diamond industry and the prospects for possible cooperation, including work in the scope of industry organizations said in a statement.
One of the topics of the working meeting was the resumption of the work of the ALROSA trade office in New York (Arcos USA), which, due to organizational reasons, has not operated since 2016. ALROSA is currently considering a number of candidates for the position of Head of Arcos USA. The subdivision is expected to resume its operations, including trading in diamonds, in late 2017-early 2018.
“The US is the world’s largest diamond jewelry consumption market. There is no doubt that ALROSA is interested in the presence and development of cooperation in this market, not only rough diamonds sales, but also trade in polished diamonds. And we are glad to see similar interest from our colleagues. Modern consumers are expressing an increasing need of an understandable and guaranteed origin of stones in jewelry, and this is one of the competitive advantages that we can offer,” Ivanov said.
